What? You’re telling me to quit??? Yes! Well, kind of…
We have all had those times where we struggle to find the motivation to train. It’s too cold, too hot, we’re a little sore or we just can’t be bothered.
There is pretty much no such thing as a bad run, and you always feel better after it’s done.
BUT, if you are struggling to get out, then tell yourself you can quit after 10 mins. Just 10 minutes, that’s all you have to do. If by 10 minutes you’re still not feeling it you can head back home.
9 times out of 10 (or probably 9.5!) you’ll find that once you have started you can go on and you’ll get your training done, and if you do head back, you can do so with the knowledge that you tried, and you’ll more than likely still feel good for getting out.
I use this technique all the time and find it so effective. Sometimes I have to cut it down to 5 minutes, or just tell myself to get out the door! But, when things seem overwhelming, going easy on yourself and giving yourself that bit of leeway to quit, generally will allow you to follow through.
Who else uses this technique?
