Mistakes runners make…Not having consistency

Weekend warriors unite!  I was totally guilty of this when I first started trail running.

I would absolutely smash myself on a massive mission on the weekend and spend the week recovering just to do it all over again.

Don’t get me wrong, if that’s how you roll and you’re happy with it, go for it – we all have different reasons we run.

BUT, if you aren’t seeing the gains you hoped for, or you are struggling to improve speed or distance this one’s for you.

So why consistency?

It’s the same for anything you do, be it your mindset work or the physical act of running training.  If you want to see improvements, if you want growth you have to keep consistent.

So how do you build consistency?

  1. Have a plan. One that is right for you and your situation.
  2. Have tools for assessment. Don’t rely on how you feel to gauge where you are at – feelings are fickle. Data is where it’s at! Track your progress.
  3. Celebrate the wins. You want to enjoy the process right?!
  4. Have accountability. A friend, mentor, coach.

You can have some massive wins and gains, but it’s the daily acts all stacked up that actually get you to your goals.

Tell me in the comments one win you are celebrating today!

Hi I'm Tanya!

On the trails, I’m an established and respected ultra-distance runner with a passion as big as the challenges I face head (and heels) on. Off the trails, I’m a 40-something mum and self-professed scaredy cat on a mission to show people that you can fear the ‘never seen before’ – and you can conquer it, too.

I’m not ‘just another’ runner, I’m also known as an athlete, storyteller and coach.
